PKD - Polycystic Kidney Disease

Polycystic Kidney Disease is an inherited kidney disease that shows up later in life with
enlarged kidneys and kidney dysfunction. Cysts are present from birth and the ultimate end
of this disease is kidney failure.
If a cat is PKD positiv, then it must be either
heterozygous (inherited the gene from one parent) OR
homozygous (inherited the gene from both parents).
If ONE parent
is homozygous have ALL the kitten PKD -
even with a negativ other parent!

Therefore let us test our cats !
PKD are most easily diagnosed by ultrasound
to detect the presence of cysts.
Ultrasound diagnosis is 98% accurate
after approximatly 10 month of age.
